Japan Visa for UAE Residents - What is it?

Instead of straightaway learning how to get Japan visa from Dubai, let’s first find out what it really is and how it came into existence. Well, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan is what brought it into existence. This online visa application system, or eVisa, is what permits foreign nationals to enter Japan. Hence, as a UAE resident, you will also need to acquire Japan visas in order to be able to visit Japan.

One can apply online for a short-term tourist visa through the country’s official website for eVisa. Basically, the idea is to reduce all the time taken for in-person applications and make the whole process easier. The best part? You won’t have to stand in a queue anywhere to get Japan Visa from Dubai UAE. Yay!

And you know who it is even better for? For UAE residents who do not have a passport of the UAE. For instance, there are several people living in the UAE who hold passports from Bangladesh, India, the Philippines, and Pakistan.

Japan Visa for UAE Residents - Timelines

Validity

The Japan Visa from Dubai is valid for three months from the date it is issued. So, if it is issued on 1st January, it is valid till the end of March. It is only during this period that you can visit the country.

Duration

The eVisa is only for “short-term” purposes, as previously stated. Meaning you can only apply for a single-entry visa for a visit of a maximum of 90 days. Therefore, every time you take a trip to Japan, you will need another eVisa.

Even though the maximum duration of stay is 90 days, the Consulate General of Japan in Dubai grants the Japan eVisa for UAE Residents. The duration can be 90 days, 30 days, or even 15 days. Some nationals are allowed a visit of up to 15 or 30 days only. Hence, the duration is not fixed. Nonetheless, it will not exceed 90 days.

Processing Time

Once you submit your Japan visa application in Dubai, it will take about 5-7 working days to process the eVisa. Whenever it is approved, you will receive it via email. See how easy it is to get an e-visa? Well, you’re yet to find out how to apply Japan visa in Dubai.

Do You Need an eVisa for Japan?

As a UAE resident, you can apply for the Japan eVisa. But there’s a catch. What is it? We’ll tell you that later (in the following section). Before that, you must know that Japan does not want everyone in the world to get a visa to enter the country; more than 60 countries do not require one. So, before you go through the hassle, check if you still need an e-visa for Japan based on your nationality.

Are You Eligible to Apply for a Japan eVisa?

Don’t be surprised! Yes, there is an eligibility criterion for the Japan eVisa application as well. And what does it depend on? Your nationality. Only people belonging to certain nationalities can apply for the Japan eVisa. This means that the Japan eVisa for UAE residents is available only to some people. For instance, if you reside in the UAE and have one of the most approved nationalities, you are likely to get the visa.

Here are the commonly approved ones:

  • Filipino
  • Bangladeshi
  • Indonesian
  • Indian
  • Vietnamese
  • Sri Lankan

Another key point is that you must also have a valid visa for UAE residence, and your passport must also be valid for at least another 6 months (beginning from your dates of traveling). Also, when you’re applying, your UAE residence visa must also be valid for more than 6 months. If your UAE residence has expired, you are not eligible for the e-visa for Japan.

The most important factor of all is a clean record of immigration within the country. If you don’t have that, don’t even think you have a chance. Finally, you need to show that you have the necessary financial means for your travel to Japan.

To summarize what we just said, here’s who can apply:

  • Individuals with no prior violations related to Japan immigration
  • People interested in traveling only for tourism purposes
  • The passport must be valid for at least 6 more months beyond the dates of the Japan travel
  • UAE residents who have a valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID
  • Only Indian, Filipino, Bangladeshi, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Sri Lankan citizens can apply for an eVisa
